Lucas is a beautiful soul; gentle, kind, generous, and loving. Everyone who meets him wants to be around him. Lucas is a son, fiancé, brother, twin, uncle, friend and coworker. He LOVES to spend time with his nieces and nephews :) and gushes over them at every turn. He is a teacher at heart and looks out for those in need, always finding ways to connect and help them. He knows who he is and is able to connect with anyone and make them laugh. Lucas truly is uniquely special and beloved by all who meet him.
On May 29th, Lucas experienced a major stroke due to an AVM rupture in his right brain. He underwent emergency brain surgery to stop the bleeding, which was successful. He was in the ICU and life-support for about 2 weeks and has since started to regain consciousness. Lucas was lucky enough to be admitted into one of the best brain recovery & rehabilitation centers in the country to continue his recovery process through speech, physical, occupational therapy and more.
The recovery process is a marathon of which we have just reached mile marker 1, with no real timeline to the finish; requiring some amount of time in the rehabilitation facility followed by at home and outpatient care. So much of the recovery process puts trust on Lucas’ will, determination, and heart to defy odds and he has already surpassed so many benchmarks! We are so grateful that Lucas is still with us and we want to do everything to support him on his journey ahead.
His first words acknowledged the miracles that saved his life, the miracles that continue to be seen in his steady recovery, and the miracles of pouring out of support from others. He has such a big heart that he is thinking about others first right now and asking how they are doing, trying to make them laugh, and showing his love.
The financial impact of his medical bills, extended care, and his personal responsibilities are more than we can tabulate or comprehend at this time. Any help goes such a long way to support him in his recovery!
