In Memory of Avdi Ceno

On February 6th, I received a call no boss likes to take. No, not a call off, or a tardy, but the news that a previous Team Member had passed, Avdi Ceno.

Our story was one to remember. I was young and just starting my second role as a Logistics Leader. I transitioned into my role to find out I had some wood to chop. I immediately felt defeat, but at the same time knew that this story that was to unfold, would be one I would never forget. As I began to learn my team and who they were I met Avdi. A kind, hard working, quiet but funny, talented man. He shared with me his journey to the States, how he got a job knowing very little English and how his family was his pride and joy. What helped this conversation flow effortlessly was the fact that like Avdi, I also spoke Albanian. I was the first leader he had encountered that completely understood him. There wasn't a day that went by that Avdi wouldn't invite me to his house for coffee, lol. As two years came and went, I learned a great deal from this man. There are no words or time to justify my learnings. The hardships this team and I encountered and then conquered will forever live with me. Avdi taught me everything I know about being a boss. He taught me to appreciate patience, to listen to others stories and not judge quickly, but most importantly he taught me the true meaning of family. I later left the store to begin another journey but still kept in contact with Avdi. In March of 2013, I lost my father rather suddenly and unexpectedly to a hyper tension stroke. It was Avdi who heard the news and called immediately to share his condolences and offer his help. The calls continued and he would randomly call to check in on me, just like my Father.

With work and the holidays, time quickly passed. It was today I received a call to tell me Avdi had passed late last night. Today we lost a man who was a loving husband, father and friend. A provider for his family, this loss is a hard hit financially. You didn't need to know Avdi very long to know his family was his pride and joy. As they have lost a loved one and will plan a funeral, the hardship will not stop there. I would like to take some of the burden off the family. Any small amount can make a difference. I thank you in advance.
