Loving Venezuela

Hello there! My name is Diana... I was born in Valencia, Venezuela in 1993. The Venezuela I remember was full of HAPPY people from all different backgrounds. People lived there because it had a rich and thriving culture. It was paradise that felt like home, and Venezuelans rarely left to live in other countries. We were very proud of being able to say that we were from that amazing land.

My family and I left Venezuela 12 years ago, and have been living in the United States ever since.

Leaving Venezuela wasn’t easy for my family and me. It was where I grew up, and it was very challenging for me to adapt to a new world, let alone a new language. When we left, things in Venezuela were fine. I never would have thought that twelve years after we left our home, I would be sending my family in Venezuela boxes with items such as toothpaste, soap, rice – the most basic necessities which, you would think, would never run out in an oil-rich country.

For the past 17 years, my home land has been going through a humanitarian, political, and economic crisis that continues to deteriorate, leaving nearly all of its citizens in 3rd-world living conditions.

I might be outside and away from this situation, but I wake up daily feeling like my heart is broken into a million pieces.

The very corrupt government of Venezuela has robbed happiness from many Venezuelans. It has robbed the dreams of those who wanted to be doctors, engineers, and successful business people. It has separated families because of different political views. It has taken away friends, sons, daughters, siblings, and parents from many people because of violence.

In Venezuela, there are kids who don't get to be kids, and mothers who stop eating to be able to feed their children. A lot of people, including newborn babies, die at hospitals every day because hospitals have no beds, no clean water, and no medicine.

Venezuela has become the country full of disappointment, impossible dreams, and broken hearts. It is the country where the only choice for many young Venezuelans is to pack their bags and leave behind their families and close friends in search for better opportunities in other countries.

Many of the people who leave don't know when or if they will be able to one day go back to their home. They give up everything in order to not be one more victim of the wrongdoings of the government.

This whole situation breaks my heart and I've always wrestled with the idea of finding a way to help my home country, but I've always feared in my heart that the problem was too big for me to even try and help -- that it would be too difficult to accomplish. One day, Sammy (the pastor of the church I attend) gave a sermon during the series called It's All About Jesus and said - "What do you need to ask God for that's BIG and BOLD?"…. WOW, that's it. That was the sign I needed! Glory to God! I realized that it's not about me, or whether or not I can get it done. Sammy helped me realize that it's about how God CAN do it! He was just waiting for me to let Him do it, to ask Him.

With the help of some amazing friends, and after partnering with a humanitarian organization that focuses on helping Venezuela, my little campaign “Loving Venezuela” is finally coming together.

My goal with this GoFundMe is to collect money that I will use to purchase goods for Venezuela. I will use some of those funds to ship all items to an organization in Florida - Comparte Por Una Vida. They will then provide safe shipment to hospitals, schools and family shelters in Venezuela.

The items that I will purchase with donated funds include:

BABY ITEMS:
Formula - All Ages
Baby Food - in pouches
Pediasure + Pedialyte
Baby Cereal
Diapers
Wipes

OTHER FOOD:
Pasta
Grains - All Types (e.g rice and beans)

PERSONAL CARE:

MEDICAL:
