Loving on the Collins

Donation protected
This is a way for you to tangibly love on Drew, Sarah and Selah Collins as they walk through a challenging, exhausting, but beautiful time in life. If you don't know the story of their sweet blessing, Selah, here is a brief history:

Selah was born in October of 2008 with multiple internal developemental anomolies called VACTERL Association. Her first surgery, at eight hours old and just four and a half pounds, was to disconnect her esophagus from her trachea and connect it with her stomach, known as a TEF repair. Another defect, a closed nasal passage on her right side, wasn't discovered until six months old. This breathing obstruction coupled with severe reflux led to multiple choking events where Selah would turn blue and stop breathing. Drew was able to perform CPR on her each time to clear her airways and recover her breathing. Over the course of the her first nine months, Selah received six more corrective surgeries (including open heart). Even through all the pain, she spread joy to all those around her.

Today Selah is an intelligent, creative and delightful five year old. She was accepted and scholarshiped to attend a school designed specifically for gifted and talented students and attends Kindergarten there. Her teachers adore her sweet spirit and verosiousness for learning.

She, unfortunately, still struggles with some health issues. This winter alone she has been admitted on four separate occasions with pnumeonia, breathing and lung related problems. Even a minor cold can send her to the hospital. During this current stay, it has been decided that Selah will receive a re-do of a surgery called Nissen Fundoplication, that will tighten the entrance from the esophagus to the stomach in an attempt to stop the reflux that is imtermitendly being aspirated into her lungs. Her family hopes this will help heal her lungs and keep her away from the hospital.

Because of all of these things, Drew and Sarah could use some financial assistance.

Here is a breakdown of their financial needs:

$5,000 medical debt

$4,000 school tuition (This school gave Selah a huge scholarship because of how important they feel it is for her to be there, but they are still needing to cover this amount. As mentioned above, God has truly blessed Selah with an incredible mind and as a community we can be part of ensuring that mind is being nurtured in the best possible environment.)

**if over $9,000 is reached...

A friend of the Collins has graciously offered to arrange and cover housing for a vacation in Hawaii if they can come up with the money for plane tickets to travel there and back. If we can raise an additional $2,500, it would go toward enabling them rest, connect and process as a family.

**if over $11,500 is reached, anything more will go toward future medical debt and school expensives.

So, please give generously as you feel led. Share their story with others, and let's see what we can do as a community. If you have been in the company of any of them, especially Selah, you have most likely experienced the joy they spread and the love they share so effortlessly. Many of us have been blessed by others--here is a chance to be that blessing.
