Loving Lucy Watson’s Heart ❤️

I have known Lucy’s mom, Tess,  and her family for 21 years.  When Tess was pregnant with her 3rd child, she went in for her 20 week anatomy scan. During the ultrasound, they found and diagnosed her baby Lucy, with a Vascular Ring accompanied with a Kommerell diverticulum. “A vascular ring occurs when the aorta (the large artery that carries oxygenated blood out of the heart) or its branches form a complete ring around the trachea (the tube that carries air to the lungs) and the esophagus (the tube that carries food to the stomach). This happens when certain parts of the aorta that normally disappear during fetal development persists abnormally.” Meaning, Lucy has a tight ring attached to her heart that is wrapped around her trachea and esophagus. In addition, the Kommerell diverticulum of her left subclavian artery (the artery that supplies blood to the left side of her body) is also causing pressure against her esophagus and is going to be surgically transplanted to a different part of her heart. The surgeons at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital have never performed this type of surgery before Lucy. 

Lucy’s surgery was Monday, September 16th. Her parents are taking off work to be at her side during her recovery as well as caring for their other two young children.   As the medical bills are beginning to  pile up, I am asking for your help to support this young family.
