LoveSavers Mission Trip to Kenya

Lovesavers, Intl is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing quality programming that teaches individuals, couples and families how to create healthy and fulfulling marriages, families and lifestyles. On September 23, 2017 Sonja Williams and Weena Cullins, both Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, will be heading to Bungoma, Kenya through Lovesavers, Intl to teach, evangelize, and bring supplies and financial aid to the community. This is an exciting act of faith as well as an acceptance of the call to be a part of something greater than ourselves. As we step away from our respective practices and families to bring hope and aid to those less fortunate than us, we are excited to carry a piece of each of you who share similar interests with us to Kenya.
We would like to shed light on the many needs of this village and solicit your support. The orphanage and the School for the Blind there is in need of medicine to treat the painful effects of Jiggers (a parasite that burrows inside the foot skin of children who do not have shoes), money for shoes, and beds which allow the children to sleep at elevated heights away from the dirt floors that contain the jiggers, books, uniforms, and other school supplies. Lovesavers, Intl made an initial donation in May of 2017 and we hope to do much more during our travels.
Kenya is one of the six HIV 'high burden' countries in Africa and ranks 12th in the world for HIV infected people. The western part of the country, where we will be traveling, contains towns that are most affected with HIV rates as high as 25%. Women face a considerably higher risk of infection than men. Issues such as female genital mutilation and poverty significantly increase a woman's chances of becoming infected. Entering unsafe relationships to escape poverty is a common practice for some. This and other human rights issues is a target issue that we will speak about while there. Our goal is to provide hope, inspriation, and an ear to those who feel unheard.
