Remembering Mete Akin

Donation protected
Dr. Mete Akin passed away Thursday September 21, 2017 at the age of 36. He was an exceptional man- full of life, love, vigor, compassion, and dedication. Mete was always there to lend a helping hand in any situation. He worked long hours, was passionate about his profession, and dedicated his life to his family.

As an anesthesiologist, Mete was the consummate perfectionist, which was evidenced by his being named Faculty and Associate Professor for the Department of Anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His rapid rise at Johns Hopkins (at the young age of 36) is a testament to his dedication to his profession.

As a husband and father, Mete loved his family to the fullest. His wife Canan was his idol. He mentioned often how she is the rock of their relationship. His children  daughter Azra (age 4 1/2) and son Kaan (13 mos) were always topics of his conversations because he loved them with all his heart. Through them, his life’s dreams came true.

I have known Mete for many years. We have interacted as friends and colleagues. As a clinician, Mete loved to review critical aspects of anesthesiology, so useful in my pediatric dental practice.  We were also fellow hobbyists. His professional and, more importantly, personal advice will stay with me forever. Like you, I am devastated by this difficult loss. I know that being there for Canan, Azra, and Kaan is exactly what Mete would want .

Please join me in support of Mete’s children in this time. No amount will bring him back, but some solace may be found in this. Although there is a family network, these young children will need financial support for current and future financial needs. His unexpected passing is no doubt a devastating event for his family. His wife is now the sole guardian of the children. Let's step up and make this an amazing effort, because she is not alone.

This drive has been coordinated with Mete’s wife Canan, she will be accepting of all proceeds of this campaign.

Will update this page instantly with any future events and notifications.
