Our dear friend April Bennett is facing the journey of a lifetime. Recently diagnosed with breast cancer, April will undergo a double mastectomy and several months of aggressive cancer treatments.
April is meeting all of this head-on, navigating the multiple appointments and multi- level decision-making, planning for all that is required of her logistically and physically over the next several months. And while no one can take on this part for her, we can help with the massive financial burden associated with it.
Like many single parents who are small business owners, April is unable to simply stop working and continue to support her two boys Griffin and Sullivan. Yet, according to her medical team, the physical exertion required by her work as a wedding photographer may be impossible for several months following surgery and during the exhausting chemotherapy treatments. This has resulted in thousands of dollars of client refund costs and cancelled weddings.
Further, bookings for summer and fall 2018 weddings are all happening now. Without a clear vision of her recovery track, April can’t, in good conscience, commit to new weddings. Therefore, she loses about half of this year’s income, and won’t be able to book any weddings until early 2019.
Finally, while April does have insurance, she will be required to lay out $7400 to meet her deductible before insurance kicks in to pay for the massive cost of cancer treatment.
We want April to put every ounce of energy into healing. We want her to not even consider the thought of going into credit card debt to pay for medical bills and other expenses. We know the village. We believe in its goodness. We know that April has been a part of it, carrying weight for others to ease their massive burdens. We want this care for April, in spite of her reluctance to ask for it.
We are setting a fund-raising goal of $18,000, to cover that monstrous $7400 deductible, refunds, and a portion of lost living expenses, so that April can make healing her fulltime job this year. Anything raised above the amount will go toward the remaining lost wages. We deeply appreciate any support you feel moved to provide.
