Sherena and Jason Mateo Support Fund

Sherena (Rena) Mateo is an incredible mother, wife, sister, daughter, and beloved friend who lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.
On June 29, 2014, Sherena gave birth through a Cesarean section to a beautiful baby daughter, Brooklyn Mateo. Severe complications resulted in Sherena being put on life support. For the next few weeks, she battled hard for her life, suffering a uterine infection, multiple organ failures and two cardiac arrests. But Sherena is a warrior, who refuses to give up!!!
Within a month, Sherena fought her way out of ICU and has regained the ability to breathe on her own, opened her eyes, and has responded to loved ones with smiles and tears. Her strength and will has been so inspiring! Although she still has a way to go in terms of regaining mobility, full consciousness, and the function of all her organs, I have had the opportunity to stand as witness to her incredible determination. She is strong, powerful, and she will be victorious. She is meant to enjoy life in health and happiness with her husband, Jason Mateo, their two boys (Kobe and Kingston), and baby Brooklyn!
No one knows this better than her husband and fiercest advocate, Jason Mateo. With strong conviction in the power of community and prayer, Jason has reached out to request that constant prayers and powerful positive energy be sent Sherena's way to help pave the way for her healing. His faith has been solid, inspiring, and infectious. He continues to spiritually and physically support Sherena everyday, along with her family, who have flown to Hawaii to surround her with love. In addition, Jason continues to work day after day to maintain financial support for the family. Those of us who know him and Sherena know that it is far from habit for them to ask for help. Many of us know them for how much they have collectively given the world in terms of their love, friendship, determination for social justice, community empowerment, and the uplifting of young people's voices for social change. Jason and Sherena are determined to give the best possible to not only their children, but the world. Taking all this to heart, a few friends have asked that he allow the community to help alleviate the burden of medical expenses and contribute to the cause of supporting their two boys and Baby Brooklyn through this challenging time. If ever there was a good time to give back to them, it is now.
So let's keep the prayers, chants, and good energy flowing!! In addition, if you can and are interested in sharing your love to support their financial needs, know that your contribution is overwhelmingly appreciated. All of your blessed donations will go towards supporting Sherena's medical expenses and to supporting the needs of three beautiful children.
Here is a message from Jason, a few weeks ago when she was still in ICU:
"This morning, I'm in high spirits with all belief that God is a miracle worker. I truly believe that Sherena will wake up. That Sherena will dance her way out of this hospital. I believe Sherena will see our smiles and recognize our faces. I believe that Sherena will reminisce with me again, and vision a healthy future with us again. I ask that you help me...collectively pray with positivity in our hearts. Pray is support of Sherena's energy to encourage her to heal. Pray that God heal her mind...More specifically the parts of the mind that give her sight, her motor skills, and her ability to focus. And pray that she gains consciousness to rejoice in God's gifts. Pray that the doctors and nurses in her care are protecting her from sickness while advocating the health of her body and brain to work together. And I ask that you believe with me. If there are any fears, doubts, or anger in you, I ask that you give that up to God to transform that energy to heal Sherena. With infinite love and gratitude, creator God/Goddess allow us to receive healing energy, and understand how to use this healing energy to contribute to the healing of Sherena."
