<div>Update: Laura had her mastectomy, chemo, hysterectomy and has since started her complicated reconstructive journey with six more surgeries. She has learned the surgeries aren’t done yet. Lulu has had her brain surgery and a surgery for airway issues. She is going through more test and may need another procedure. The family has also continues through a mental health crisis. <div>Hi, my name is Heather and I'm fundraising for my best friend Laura Janovich Schick and her daughter Lulu. Laura and I have been friends since before we could walk or even talk!
</div>
<div>Laura's daughter, Lulu (5yrs), who is autistic, was diagnosed with a brain condition that requires surgery. While they were waiting for Lulu's surgical plan, Laura was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) a more aggressive type of tumor with a faster growth rate, higher risk of metastasis and recurrence risk. In Laura’s case, we are hoping we caught it early enough for her body to beat it.

<div>The cancer is likely a result of the BRCA1 gene. Laura will need an immediate double mastectomy, followed by a hysterectomy, along with several other surgeries. At some point Laura and her team of doctors at Duke will make the decision if Chemo and/or Radiation are part of her medical plan. Laura's other medical conditions make this a challenging situation.

<div>Thankfully, Laura is the strongest and most positive woman we know. One of the most challenging parts is that due to lack of funds and childcare, Laura is having to do most appointments and treatments by herself, while her husband Mike sits in the car with the kids, Ali, CeCe, Jett and Lulu.
</div>
<div>As if these trials weren't enough, Mike was let go from his employer as he was arranging Flex Time and FMLA. While Laura had been working part time to cover some of Lulu's extra expenses she is no longer able to.
</div>
<div>There are a lot of uncertainties for them in the months to come, one thing is certain and that is they are going to need all the help they can get.
</div>
<div>All funds will go towards medical cost, Laura &amp; Lulu's care items, and childcare (including special needs for Lulu).
</div>
