Love and Support for Zureick

Donation protected

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, three month old Baby Zureick was found unresponsive and not breathing at home by his parents, Amberlie and Nick. Amberlie immediately called 911 and drove him across the street to the hospital while Nick was doing chest compressions.  When they arrived in the Emergency Department of Mercy West Hospital, hospital staff took over CPR, finally found a heartbeat and put him on a ventilator. The Pediatric Squad transported him to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and he had his first seizure.

When Zureick arrived at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital he was rushed to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The PICU staff spent a couple of hours getting him stabilized and monitored. Over the next few days, Zureick was given a serious of standard tests.

CT head scan showed that he had significant brain swelling consistent with no oxygen or heartbeat for 30 minutes.

EKG showed that the left side of his heart was not pumping as it should.

EEG shows he was continuing to have sporadic seizures. He was placed on an anti-seizure medication which is stopping his seizures.

CT body scan showed internal damage to his bowels and kidneys consistent with no oxygen or heartbeat for 30 minutes.

He had a blood transfusion on Thursday because his hemoglobin counts were down.

Zureick is taking small breaths over his ventilator. This is his only qualification of not being considered brain dead.

MRI results showed that he had significant brain damage that is consistent with what doctors have been preparing us for the past few days.

Doctors are unsure of the cause, but are leaning towards Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).  In situations like this it is hard for the doctors to know the exact cause.  They believe that Amberlie and Nick found him right after his heart and breathing stopped and by getting him to the hospital immediately, they were able to get his heart restarted. However, he suffered significant brain damage.

On September 21st, Amberlie and Nick made the best decision for Zureick, they decided to turn on his machines. Zureick was so strong and comfortable. He took his last breath at 11:23pm.

They are a family of six, Amberlie, Nick, Savannah (8), Mackenzie (6), Zander (4) & Baby Zureick.   With being off work to care for Zureick, they have incurred medical, after care and basic living expenses and need help from Family and Friends whom have shown so much love and support during this difficult time.
