Help Us Make a Difference in Uganda – Lou & Betty’s Journey

Hi! We’re Lou and Betty – a mother-daughter team with a shared dream to support communities in Uganda.

For as long as I (Lou) can remember, I’ve carried a deep ache to see transformation in the lives of those affected by extreme poverty. As a teenager, I volunteered in a Romanian orphanage, and ever since, my heart has been drawn to Uganda.

I first visited in 2019, and my heart was marked forever. Forever Ugandan! Now, in November 2025, I’m heading back - this time with Betty by my side. Those who know my teenage daughter know how big her heart is, and she dreams of this trip too.

We’ll be travelling with our amazing friends Sam & Katy, who’ve spent years building strong relationships and supporting life-changing projects in Uganda with Kakina Freedom Ministries Ltd. Through them, we’ll be connecting with a loving orphanage in Wobulenzi, run by a wonderful Ugandan couple who care for children who’ve been abandoned and have nowhere else to go.

We’ll also visit local schools, churches, and community farming projects that help people grow their own food, start small businesses, and create sustainable futures – all in a place where many live in slums with no clean water, no toilets, no medical care, and no access to education. The average daily wage is just 48p – it’s hard to imagine from here in the UK.

But this isn’t just a trip. It’s a mission. We want to support the work happening on the ground, yes – but also come back and advocate. We’ll listen, learn, and share the real stories of resilience and hope, raising awareness and helping others see how they can make a difference too.

We’re aiming to raise £3,000 to cover our travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and to provide support for families during our time there.
