Louisa's Leukaemia battle

Donation protected
My name is Amanda and I met Clare and Louisa (aged 6) a few months after Louisa got diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Clare contacted me as my son also got the same diagnosis a few years earlier.

Claire is a single mum to four beautiful children Lachlan (13), Leah (8), Louisa (6) and Lucy (2).
It has just hit home that the increased infection risk (before the extra worry of a novel virus!), means they will not be able to get out and about (no public playgrounds, no beach) this summer between treatments and will be needing to stay at home unless at the Royal Children's Hospital.

I am wanting to raise some money to help fix up their backyard and buy some new play equipment for the kids to use safely and for Clare to be able to enjoy with them. Anything extra will help cover the growing costs of treatment, travel and daily living expenses

Clare's sister (in Marshall, VIC) is the closest family they have and their family are currently grieving a death of a loved one due to cancer. Her next closest family support are locked down in Melbourne and her amazing Dad has been looking after the older children in his home, in Canberra.
Our community was a big help for us and I'm hoping everyone can pitch in whatever they can to help Clare and her family too!

An update from Clare in April, about Louisa first getting diagnosed.

Some of you lovely humans might remember my miss Louisa being awfully sick during February and not at school all that often. She wasn’t upright all that often either, which prompted me and our doctor to do a full physical on the 5th of March. As she hadn’t responded to antibiotics or sleep and was getting worse.

It was on this day, in the evening that I got the call to get into the ED in Geelong ASAP with her. I then, later that night (10:30pm), drove up to the Royal Childrens Hospital (quicker than waiting for the ambo) in a state of shock. My precious child has leukaemia. And this was confirmed over the following 24hrs. To say our lives are upside down and inside out would be an understatement.

Louisa and I have been living in the Ronald Macdonald house in North Fitzroy for close to a month now. We spent 2 solid weeks in the RCH and we discharged just as this covid 19 took charge. Beyond scary times just the leukaemia diagnosis and then the covid as well.. We don’t do things in halves hey?!

I haven’t physically seen my other babies, (age is just a number lol) for a few wks now but thankfully call and video call daily. My dad is a champion
My family are amazing
My precious Louisa will be ok The correct diagnosis is Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. The lesser of the two evils. And is ‘curable’.

Our road is long and our journey will be strenuous, but I am there for my babe and all the others. Hold your children close, smother them in cuddles and kisses even if they don’t want them! And do it all the time!
