In 2016, I along with my husband, embarked on a journey to build a community centre in a village in rural Siem Reap, Cambodia. The doors of this centre, Lotus House, were opened in 2016 to over 200 of the most impoverished kids living in this village.
Through this experience we discovered the vulnerability and the urgent need to assist the elderly. We find their circumstances extremely sad and disturbing after they have lived through one of the worst genocides of the late 1970's. So many of them lost family members, children and spouses. They lived in terror of the Khmer Rouge Regime , feared for their lives and the lives of their loved ones, they are the survivors of this horrific time in history. They live without HOPE!
We have now established what we consider one of the most vital programs in Siem Reap Cambodia. Through sponsorship and support we aim to help them live a life of dignity, it's a human right! And we aim to facilitate healthy happy lives through giving a modest pension that will allow them to purchase food and other personal needs. The suffering we see cannot be ignored. The elderly in Cambodia DO NOT receive any government assistance, NO pension, NO medical NO housing allowances. Through sponsorship and support we are aiming to empower the elderly living in extreme poverty.
WHY IS YOUR HELP NEEDED?
We CANNOT do this alone! We need your support to give them the help they have a right to receive. They need dignity, health, happiness and a safe place to live. We CAN provide that but only if we come together!
