It is currently 4:35 AM on Monday, December 16th, 2019.
I work a midnight shift in a warehouse, and tonight a dear friend (Gregg) had to leave work early due to an emergency phone call.
I realized he had left and called to hear that his home had caught fire. In his home was his mother, all of his money (he recently drained his account for vacation), all of his material belongings, and his cat.
Gregg is now homeless. My wife and I have offered our spare bedroom during his time of need.
Getting back on his feet is going to be a significant challenge as he has to deal with the emotional pain of losing his mother as well as the financial pains of the funeral that must follow.
Gregg has been a wonderful friend, he is always trying to make people smile. This is the saddest tragedy that I could imagine happening to anyone.
