The weekend is a celebration of baseball, cervezas, international good will, friends [and friends separating friends from their money in an all-night poker game], and food. The center of the event is dedicated to bettering the lives of kids in the village. The Monos, Monos-supporters, Baja Bound Mexican Insurance, Retro Sports, Dowling Construction, Mitch's Seafood, Small Bar, Herness Electric and Merch Lackey have all donated generously over the last 10 years to send over 80 kids to Preparatoria school, have filled numerous kids' backpacks with school supplies, and given away Boxes and boxes of super cool t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Last year we raised over $4000 and were able to provide school uniforms to over 130 school children. As of last year they are not provided to the kids anymore and they each need one to go to school. Our goal is to raise $4500+ this year and hopefully provide 140-150 school uniforms.
Any amount you can donate will help. Please send donations prior to August 10th so we can make sure to get funds to Erindera prior to the game on August 12th. Cash donations will also be accepted the day of the game.
If you plan on coming to Mexico and would like to bring school supplies anything you can bring is appreciated (pens, pencils, markers, backpacks, paper, & other various items needed para escuela!) Target usually has great deals. The kids in the village really look forawrd to the school supplies! We will be collecting/organizing them into packets that can be more easily distributed, so the earlier you can get them to the Duke compound , the better! Last year we organized over 200 bags for the kids, let's beat that mark and make 250! Here is a link to what is needed:
Please help spread the word and let's make this the best Los Monos Copa de Baja ever!
