Novo Update!
O Federico está nos últimos dias da sua quarantena em Buenos Aires e a preparar a viagem para o interior, para estar com os sobrinhos e encontrar o lugar certo para o último adeus ao irmão e a mãe. Ao mesmo tempo estão a fazer planos do que vai ser preciso para ajudar aos filhos do seu irmão em todos os sentidos. Estamos a organizar obras básicas de reabilitação da casa e tentar encontrar uma forma de ajuda mais sustentável e de longa duração. Também falta encontrar uma solução para o cão que vive neste momento sozinho na casa.

Federico is at this point still in prophylactic isolation in BA due to covid measures. They are preparing the trip to his brothers hometown to meet his children and look for the ideal spot for the last goodbye. They are also making plans for the needed recovery work on the house and anything to provide some more sustainable and long term help for the family.

Unfortunately we have to share sad news. Federicos big brother passed away yesterday, there are no words to describe the pain of those who remain, including his two children, Federico and his sister.

The baby at the right on this picture is Federico from Buenos Aires. Federico is my person since 2017. This is his story.
I know Federico as the most caring and selfless person who always thinks of others first, especially his family and friends. He´d give you his shirt off his back if you were in trouble and has done it already a several times.
Federico went to live in Portugal almost 20 years ago for financial reasons and to support his widowed mother, but a part of him stayed all those years in South America, near to his brother and his sister, so later when I met him I have felt almost instantly the bond between them.
But how life went, there where not many oportunities to visit. Every year Federico worked overtime and saved some money so that at least their mother could travel once a year to visit her children and grandchildren, but Federicos last trip to Argentina took already place a whole decade ago by now.
2019, just before Covid started, their mother got very ill. He was there for her, when his siblings couldn´t be. During the last year she underwent several surgeries and a chemotherapy, while her son tried to shield her from corona.
Unfortunatly mom died in February during the peak of corona crises in Portugal and Argentina, alone and with no place to find her final rest. So since then the 3 siblings were trying to get on with life, figuring out how to get their mother home to Argentina or at least how to be able to support each other in this difficult times. Nothing goes, noone gets in or out of the two countries, humanitarian reasons are beeing denied.
Then their big brother (left in the picture) over in Argentina got first a heart attack, than diabetes and most recently he was admitted with severe pneumonia due to covid 19. Right now he is at a critical stage and the 3 siblings are still separated by some 6000 km of distance. By now all three have had Covid19, all three have lost their mother to Covid19.
Life in Argentina is hard, as life in Portugal has been dificult to. Salaries are low, unemployment is going to the roof and the health systems of both country are giving in... I could go on and on, but long story short: Federico needs to travel urgently to Argentina to reunite with his siblings, stay with his ill brother and bring his mothers remains home and there is no way on earth for him to pay for it on his own.
He and his sister need to be there for their big brother and they also need to improve the recently discovered and fairly unexpected very poor housing conditions for when he recovers and is able to go home.
I would kindly like to ask you to help if you can.
For what money is needed right now the most:
- Flight tickets, bus tickets and paper work to travel to Buenos Aires and further 700km to the brothers hometown, and transport the mothers remains.
- At least 4 PCR-tests, 3 required for travelling to Argentina and 1 or more likely 2 to get back to Europe.
- Money to stay in Argentina during the requested quarantine period and all stay near his brothers hospital.
- Money to cover the salary loss in Portugal, with only a few days of vacation leave left and at least 10 days for the journey and the first quarantine period, he will need to ask for an unpaid leave at work to be able to go.
- Money to provide a final resting place to the mother.
- One last personal wish from me to them: I would like to raise some of the money to repair and renovate the completly decayed house. (Therefore we will ask for help on site, but honestly, there needs to happen some profound construction and rehabilitation work to make the house habitable again when Federicos brother is in a proper health condition to go home. Unfortunatly this is some new discovery they did not expect)
