Once días de tu vida desaparecieron. No tuviste cumpleaños, no hubo bodas, no se pagaron salarios.
Esto ocurrió en Inglaterra en 1752, cuando se adoptó el calendario que usamos hoy.
La gente salió a las calles, gritando:
“¡Devuélvannos nuestros días!”
Pero más allá de la anécdota histórica, esto plantea una pregunta profunda:
¿Qué es el tiempo realmente?
¿Y cómo afecta nuestras vidas cuando se altera de golpe?
Mi misión
Soy historiador y he dedicado años a estudiar el concepto de tiempo.
Este proyecto, que desarrollaré en la Universidad de Oxford, busca responder una pregunta fundamental:
No sólo cómo medimos el tiempo, sino qué es realmente y cómo nos da sentido como sociedad.
Para lograrlo, analizaré documentos inéditos, especialmente testimonios de personas que vivieron aquel extraño cambio de calendario. A través de sus voces, quiero entender cómo una transformación técnica en la medición del tiempo alteró profundamente la vida cotidiana y la identidad de toda una nación.

Vivimos en un mundo donde nuestra relación con el tiempo se ha vuelto caótica:
Todo es instantáneo, pero siempre sentimos que no tenemos tiempo.
El trabajo remoto y la tecnología están desdibujando nuestros días y noches.
Incluso crisis globales, como la pandemia, nos hicieron perder la noción del tiempo.
Este proyecto no sólo estudia el pasado, nos ayuda a entender nuestro presente.
Porque, si el tiempo es una construcción social, también podemos reconstruirlo de maneras más humanas y significativas.

Soy un historiador mexicano especializado en historiología, la disciplina que estudia la historia de las ideas y los conceptos que dan forma a nuestras sociedades.
Mi trayectoria ha estado dedicada a entender cómo el tiempo ha sido interpretado y vivido a lo largo de la historia, y este proyecto es el paso más importante en esa búsqueda.

Eleven days of your life vanished.
There were no birthdays, no weddings, no wages paid.
This really happened in England in 1752, when the calendar we use today was adopted.
People flooded the streets shouting:
“Give us our days back!”
But beyond this fascinating historical anecdote lies a deeper question:
What is time, really?
And how does it affect our lives when it’s suddenly altered?
My mission
I am a historian who has dedicated years to studying the concept of time.
This project, which I will develop at the University of Oxford, seeks to answer a fundamental question:
Not just how we measure time, but what time truly is and how it gives meaning to us as a society.
To do this, I will analyze unpublished documents, especially testimonies from people who lived through that strange calendar change.
Through their voices, I hope to understand how a technical adjustment in measuring time profoundly altered everyday life and the identity of an entire nation.

We live in a world where our relationship with time has become chaotic:
Everything is instantaneous, yet we always feel like we don’t have enough time.

Global crises, like the pandemic, have completely disrupted our sense of time.
