My name is Stefan Buhr. Not many people know that I love to go for long runs, but distance running is something that I've always enjoyed in my free time. Last year, I challenged myself to complete my first marathon. This year, I'm back to test my endurance to see how far I've come on my journey at the Los Angeles Marathon 40th Anniversary!
A major aspect of the race this year is supporting the communities affected by the wildfires which devastated much of Los Angeles. As a resident of LA, I witnessed firsthand the impact this had on my community and the people around me. In order to compete, I've been asked to make a large contribution towards these recovery efforts. By donating to this campaign, you are not only supporting my personal fitness journey, but also 100% of the money will go to the Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) and the California Fire Foundation
I am connected with these organizations as a participant in the Los Angeles Marathon and am donating these funds directly through my registration.
Ultimately, this impact will include: Distributing cash assistance so people can purchase items to meet their unique and urgent needs. Providing thousands of free resources such as N95 masks, hygiene kits, kid-friendly gift bags, air purifiers, and respiratory health checks. Assisting local shelters by supplying WiFi, charging stations, and cellphone batteries so people can communicate with their loved ones and get critical updates and information. Helping people navigate the complex rebuilding process, from working on FEMA and other applications right now, to disaster case management support over the years to come.
