Lorraine's MDS Fight

Donation protected
After many years of not feeling herself, Lorraine was diagnosed this summer with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), also known as preleukemia. MDS is an uncommon disorder and best described as bone marrow failure - creating the inability to generate white blood cells to fight infections. Unfortunately the only cure for her is a stem cell transplant, with the best donor option being a sibling (second option is finding a donor-match on the national registry). You can find more information about MDS here: Dana Farber - MDS Information.

Once a match has been found, Lorraine will be in good hands with the top stem cell transplant specialists in the world at the Dana Farber Institute in Boston. She'll need to spend up to 4 weeks at DF post-transplant, and then will be out of work for 9-12 months while she generates a new immune system, at her daughter's home in Portland.

While she is fortunate to have great medical care, she does not have disability coverage. During her recovery she will have travel expenses to-and-from Boston and signficant loss of income. Your generous contribution, big or small, will make the world of difference to her and will help alleviate those recovery related expenses. We love her very much and thank you so much for taking the time to read her story. Please feel free to share this post to help spread the word.
