Lorenzo's Heart

At 23 weeks pregnant, we found out that our baby has Severe Aortic Stenosis with Severe Mitral Valve Regurgitation and Evolving Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. This rare congenital heart defect is damaging his heart with every beat. He needs Fetal Aortic Valvuloplasty ASAP to save his life and preserve the left ventricle function in his heart. This new cutting edge surgery is his best chance of surviving to term and gives him the best chance for life. We have chosen to proceed even though it is considered 'experimental' by our insurance company. However,this surgery will not 'fix' his heart. If it is 'successful' he will still need extensive interventions following his birth.
