Lopatcong Legal Defense Fund
For 3 years our area’s residents have been fighting a legal battle to protect the health and safety of our community against an approved application to build an asphalt plant 1600 feet from our elementary school.
Our struggle has been a typical David and Goliath fight against the big money, big business, and political shenanigans that introduced this threat to our community.
We humbly ask for your support to continue our fight. We hope you’ll consider helping us to fund further legal action.
Please help us to prove that even a small community can maintain a long and contentious fight against corporate and political interests – we cannot allow our justice system to favor the highest bidder.
The people are the underdog in this sad story but with your help, we can overcome even the greatest of odds.
We have been betrayed by a local government that first built several suburban developments, inviting families from all over to make their homes here, and then pulled the rug right out from under each them.
It is our distinct belief that these leaders should have considered the thousands of families that have purchased homes here before offering the heart of our community up to become a regional hub for heavy industrial traffic. There are more appropriate locations for such a facility and it is our hope that our legal fight will force them to find one.
Please rest assured that this is far more than a NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) campaign. Rather, this deal represents a genuine threat to the safety of our community and the quality of our water. Not only will this facility alter the character of our community and reduce the value of our homes; it will also endanger our families.
If you live here, love someone who does, or are simply fed up with dirty deals that exploit small communities for profit, please contribute to our cause. We are up against a powerful group of interconnected politicians, businesses, and developers who have a solid grip on regional decision making in our area.
So far, despite our greatest efforts, we have not been able to break through the shield of their connections and protections. Our only hope is to pursue our legal fight in the hopes that it gets far enough beyond their influence to grant us enough space to gain some ground in court.
