Longacres Skate Non-profit found its roots back in September of 2016. When a couple of friends decided to pour a few bags of concrete in an abandoned space underneath I405 in Renton, WA. The recently discovered dry skate space started to catch attention fast. Before we knew it we had poured over 50,000 pounds of bagged concrete, laid hundreds of feet of rebar and wire, and spent countless hours constructing what you see today as Longacres DIY skate spot.
After months of construction, WSDOT got word of our project and contacted us about the removal of the skatepark. That is when Longacres Skate Non-profit was formed to take on the task of leasing this plot of land from WSDOT.
We are currently in the process of leasing this land from WSDOT. This process is something that may take up to a year to complete It may end up costing over 10,000 dollars in legal fees from WSDOT and the federal government to approve the use of this land. Don't let this large number discourage you! Through the skateboarders of western Washington, the skate shops, and supportive community members alike I firmly believe we can save Longacres DIY.
The initial goal is set at $5,000. The bills for our JA account applications will soon be arriving on my personal door step. This money is needed to pay for these fees. But if we get past the initial approval process these costs will inevitably rise. We thank each and every one of you for your support, new and continued. We wouldn't be here without you, and we won't be able to stay without you. Please share our story and help save Longacres DIY.
DISCLAIMER: Currently this Gofundme account is not set up as a charity organization fund. We are in the process of submitting the 501c3 tax exempt status applications, which will allow us to raise donations as a charity organization. Until then all funds will be donated to a Longacres Skate Non-profit associate, who will then transfer the money to the organization.
