Long Family Hurricane Harvey Flood

There have been so many family, friends, and communities affected by Hurricane Harvey in the past few weeks. Our hearts go out to all of the flood victims near and far. Navigating Behavior Solutions has a family close to us that we would like to help. We are asking for donations to assist the family of Brian and Brenda Long. The Longs are from Kingwood, Texas they were one of the many families affected by the flooding. They have no flood insurance because they are not in a flood zone. Their entire downstairs and garage were destroyed. In the process of cleaning out their home, they have realized the loss; Cars, pictures, all of the furniture in the downstairs and many heirlooms that belonged to Brenda’s family, and their clothing,  just to name a few things.

Brian is a Pastor at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Katy, Texas. Brian’s church also took on water and is trying to restore the sanctuary and grounds of the church.  Brenda is a kindergarten teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood. Brenda also works helping students with challenges through tutoring. The family has a son, Ryan, with special needs who relies on routines and predictability to navigate his day. Currently they have been displaced to College Station staying with one of their daughters, Carolyn. Carolyn just moved to College Station 2 weeks ago to begin her doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering. The family is driving back and forth everyday from College Station and working hard to restore as much normalcy as possible to their lives and help their son get back to a routine. Brenda’s elderly mother also lives with them and has been displaced as well.

The family has been planning a wedding for one of their daughters, Kimmi. They were able to save Kimmi’s wedding gown and with everything lost Brenda was so relieved that they saved the gown for her daughter’s special day. The family will return to Kingwood on September the 10th to stay with friends so that their son can return to school. The damage to their home and the loss of their personal things is overwhelming.

We are asking for donations to help the Long family rebuild and get their home livable again so that they can move on from the devastation of Harvey and the flooding.
