London Vegan Food Bank

The London Vegan Food Bank was launched in June 2018 by a passionate group of activists & community members who wanted to fight food insecurity in our city by offering plant-based and animal cruelty-free food and products for everyone. What started as a small idea quickly turned into a very large project as the incoming need from our community grew. We believe that it's important to make healthy and sustainable plant-based food & care products available to everyone and to educate the public on the benefits of a vegan lifestyle for the animals & our planet.

We are currently providing ongoing care for over 100 families & emergency or one-time-only service to dozens more. We are growing at a rate that we cannot sustain in our current space and lacking some of the crucial resources that our clients & the community could greatly benefit from.

We hope to create a space where folks can feel comfortable sharing stories, ideas & laughter. Where activists and environmentalists can meet and workshop and of course to provide food and other necessary items to those in need.

Donations will help fund our non-profit community project by:

• Rent/Hydro in our new space
• Equipment & cold-storage
• Emergency food (when non-perishable/fresh donations are scarce)
• Transportation costs (to deliver food to folks with accessibility/mobility obstacles)

Our future space will be set up like a market so that our clients & the community can "shop" for free donated items and make their own choices. While a food basket is beneficial for emergency situations we want to provide more freedom to those who use our food bank. This will also reduce food waste by functioning like a typical market where individual needs can be met.

We hope to offer ready-prepared hot meals at our new location so that hunger needs can be met right away or busy working folks can stop by on their lunch break.

We would also like to get the community involved in hosting events and workshops on nutrition, cooking, food-prep, environmentalism & activism. We believe in the importance of education in order to instill ethical, sustainable & compassionate choices. Our new spot will allow volunteers to congregate and work together in a shared space.

Our final vision for this project is a small community-operated food garden which will provide fresh vegetables directly to the food bank & allow education and teaching opportunities.
