London to Paris for Jess
On 12 August 2017, our amateur cycling team (Tom, Will, Paul, Luke, Cam and Angus) will attempt to cycle from London to Paris in less than 24 hours. In doing so, we hope to raise money for our friend, Jessica Lenihan, and her brave battle with cancer.
Our route will take us from the steps of Tate Britain on to the pyramid of the Louvre Museum, to celebrate Jess' passion for, and career in, the arts.
Jess was diagnosed on her 26th birthday in September 2016 with the rare and aggressive cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. Since then, we have been with Jess as she has fought through 9 months of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, chemotherapy can only control the cancer for an average of 11 months.
Immunotherapy (an alternative cancer treatment) offers the best chance for slowing the cancer or even putting it into remission. But this treatment for this cancer type is currently only available with private funding.
Family and friends have already fundraised over £92,000 towards the £100,000 goal. It’s an incredible achievement and the main fundraising page can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/help-jess-fight-her-rare-cancer. But there is still a little way to go.
We would be hugely grateful for any donation to support our cause. The money raised from our cycle challenge will be added to the overall total and could really make all the difference to funding Jess’ care*.
The challenge (approx. 200 miles, a midnight ferry, the summer sun and navigating both London and Paris) is not to be underestimated. Our (much needed) training is well under way. Very soon, we set off on by far the longest cycle any of us has attempted before.
