My name is Lola. I am a fifteen year old, born in Boston Massachusetts and raised in San Miguel de Allende Mexico since the age of two. I need funds to live and study abroad in Spain in order to pursue my future career as an ambassador between two cultures.
San Miguel is a world UNESCO city known as the “heart of Mexico” for the way in which it preserves tradition, history and culture. This is the place I have grown and thrived, and where I have nurtured my diplomatic instincts. I interpret for cross cultural photography projects. I teach in a rural Mexican community. I am a natural leader, friend, and teacher.
With your help, I will be able to spend my sophomore year in Spain and join Quest, a program that offers educational programs to students to grow and have a greater understanding of the world. Quest will organize my life for a full academic year in Cadiz, one of the most ancient cities in Europe. Cadiz is in many ways like San Miguel: it is a small ancient city that has, like San Miguel, preserved all the rich culture and history of the nation.
An ambassador is someone who understands the values, the traditions, the language, and, most importantly, the people in a rich way impossible for someone who is not fully immersed into both cultures. In order for me to become a full fledged ambassador between Mexico and the United States I need to experience the cultural roots of Latin American culture which is Spain. By going to study abroad in Spain for one year I will be able to fully experience Spanish culture, which will give me a new level of understanding between the United States and Mexico.
I believe in building bridges, not walls. A year of immersion in Spain will solidify my knowledge of Latin American roots. It will solidify the foundation of my bridge between Mexico, where I have lived most of my life, the United States, which I understand through my parents and extended family, and Spain, which is the source of Latin American culture.
The funding I get here will go towards the program fees which include: Application Assistance, Host Family Placement, Room and Board, School Placement, Round Trip International Flight, Medical Insurance, Travel Insurance, Student ID Card, Preparation Information and Materials, Pre Departure Orientation, Transportation to and from In-Country Airport, In-Country Airport Greeting and Assistance (Local Coordinator/Host Family), Local Coordinator Supervision and Support in Host Country, 24 Hour Emergency Support and a Letter of Completion/Recommendation After Program.
I only have a few weeks to gather the funds and make this dream a reality. I will be extremely grateful for all the help given. This will be a life changing experience that will majorly contribute to my development as an individual and to my impact on this world.
