Lois Chapman is the friend everyone wants to have. If anyone is in need of a ride, a meal, money or just some company, Lois is always the first to be there. Her love for family, friends, animals, Mother Nature and life in general show through in her work, crafts, flower & vegetable gardens, delicious meals, and laughter. She is a beautiful giving woman who has endured more than her share of tough times.

In 2014 Lois was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in both breasts. Surgery and treatments became her routine for close to two years. With the love and support of family and friends, Lois returned to her beloved “Strong Women” fitness groups in 2016 inspiring all who know her. I want to express the impact Lois has made with the women who participate in her Strong Women programs. These programs not only help women physically but also has a positive impact on their emotional and psychological well-being too. A caring community forms within these groups.

Lois was so excited for the arrival of her grandson, Charly and loved holding and snuggling with him. In July, just a few weeks after his arrival Lois suffered what the doctors have concluded is a violent Gran Mal seizure causing severe fractures in both shoulders and upper arms. Prior to reconstruction of her arms, one test noted a small tumor in her brain that could have triggered the seizure. The concern is that cancer has now spread, but because of her present condition, further testing is on hold. Lois underwent surgery to have total shoulder replacements, a rod in one arm from elbow to shoulder and on the other side a rod from collarbone to shoulder. Her arms are in braces totally immobilizing her hands; arms and shoulders. She is solely dependent on others to help with all hygiene needs, moving in bed, walking very short distances eating.

Insurance has covered some of the medical costs. She has been trying to decrease her debt but now she is out of work and facing another mountain of medical bills. When her family gets her home they will need help up to 16 hours a day to care for her and insurance will only cover 2 hours/day, and only a few days a week.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help Lois with medical bills and the additional assistance she will need for many months to come. We hope this will give her incentive to heal so she can hold her grandson, regain strength and rejoin her Strong Women family.  Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support!
