Logan's Trip to Disneyland Paris

When you see the face of any parent, you see clearly the love and devotion they have for their children. This is no different when you see Nailsea couple Sarah and Craig Marsh. However what is not instantly obvious is what this family have been through to get to where they are today. Craig and Sarah’s eldest son Logan, 3, was born with a very rare type of acute myeloid leukaemia.
“As soon as Logan was born, it was obvious something was wrong. Bruising started appearing all over his body, and he was instantly taken to intensive care for further testing.” says Sarah.
This tell tale “blueberry muffin” rash was the first sign that something serious might be happening and initially doctors suspected that Logan was suffering from neuroblastoma, a type of cancer affecting the specialised nerve cells. Further testing revealed that Logan was actually suffering from leukaemia, and Craig and Sarah’s world came crashing down within an instant. As he was newborn and the cancer had not yet reached his bone marrow, it was decided to wait as long as possible before starting chemotherapy, as he was already so weak. Sadly it later transpired that the cancer was on the move and had spread to Logan’s bone marrow, time was now of the essence and it was crucial to start chemotherapy straight away.
Sarah struggles to tell me about this night, and it was soon very clear as to why. When Logan returned from surgery to insert a Hickman line, he stopped breathing in her arms- Sarah could only sit back and watch as the medical team desperately tried to resuscitate her son. Even though he was already so weak, the chemotherapy still had to continue.
Sadly this was not to be the end of the family’s heartache as Logan developed a haematoma, which despite treatment, wasn’t resolving and the family were informed there was nothing more that could be done. Craig and Sarah had a conversation no parent should ever have to have.
“He came into this world with us by his side, he’ll leave with us by his side.”
Logan was taken into a side room and made comfortable and his Mum and Dad stayed with him all night waiting for him to pass away.
After a night filled with emotional agony and pain that most of us couldn’t even contemplate Logan made a miraculous recovery, his treatment continued, and he is now a beautiful 3 year old boy. The future is still uncertain, but his family focus on the here and now, the special things in this world, and making memories for them and their children.
This family have been through more in the last 3 years than most of us could imagine going through in a lifetime, we want to help to give them an amazing memory that they will remember forever, and are raising funds for them to visit Disneyland Paris.
