Logan's Fundraiser

Hi Everyone,

My name is Logan, I am a lively, happy little three and half years old warrior. I was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour that had been silently growing.

In the beginning of June, my mum and dad noticed that I struggled with my balance and my head tilted which alerted them to go to the hospital and get me checked out. I spent a few days in Crumlin Hospital where my cheeky smile helped me to win the hearts of the medical staff. I had an MRI scan that confirmed I had a brain tumour. I then had to make my way to Temple Street Hospital and a few days later I went through a 7-hour surgery where the doctors were able to remove the tumour. The surgery was very risky and difficult but thankfully successful. A few days later my biopsy results confirmed the tumour was indeed malignant. I am now on a journey to try and make sure this tumour does not come back….

The type of tumour that I had is called Anaplastic Ependymoma (grade 3). My recovery depends on many factors, including how healthy I am in general, the success of my surgery and how well I will react to my upcoming treatment.  My mum and dad and everybody else are hoping for the best outcome of course.

Once we get a date from the hospital (asap), my parents and I will travel to Germany for 9 weeks (maybe more) where I will undergo protons radiotherapy. This treatment is not available in Ireland unfortunately. We are hoping we can fly soon. Thankfully, most of the cost of the treatment will be covered by the HSE. My mum and dad are forever grateful for that.

Understandably, there will still be some expenses that will need to be covered by my parents. They both will be out of work for a prolonged period of time. We don’t know yet how well my body will react to radiotherapy , what will be the side effects or what other treatment and care I may need in future. I will need to be monitored and have regular scans for the next 10 years.

Many of my parents' friends and relatives have provided us with great support so far and we are very grateful and thankful for this.

My mum and dad’s close friends have set up this fundraising page to help get our little family through this tough time. Every donation is so much appreciated, it will go towards my wellbeing and to help my mum and dad do their best to get me through this difficult journey.

Thank you.

Logan
