Hi everyone,
My name is Lily Robinson and I am extremely vulnerable to covid-19 on account of the fact I have brittle asthma type 2 (one of the severe asthmas).
During the past year I have been doing my absolute best to survive being unable to work during lockdowns as I don't have a job that I can do from home and government guidance for people like myself has been not to work unless we can do it from home. What has made my circumstances worse is that last year, I had a bad period with my asthma that had me off work for the whole of Autumn. I work in zero hour contract job and so this effected my average income for 2019/2020 which in turn impacted the amount of furlough I have been eligible to. While I have also claimed Universal Credit in order to help cover my expenses, due to what happened last Autumn I was already in a lot of debt and have ended up entering this pandemic at a significant disadvantage financially.
My asthma has also lead to my being assessed as having Limited Capability For Work and Work Related Activity as my asthma has been quite bad over recent years limiting my ability to work and while this has gained me a little extra money via Universal Credit, it is also limiting the number of hours I can work. I am only allowed to work a maximum of 16 hours per week which limits how much I can save during the periods I have been able to work.
I have done my absolute best this year to keep a roof over my head and keep afloat but I have reached a point where I cannot afford to go through another lockdown. While I am in work and earning I am able to afford my expenses but if we enter another lockdown, which is looking likely this New Year I am going to be unable to afford it.
I budget meticulously and I have worked out that to survive another lockdown I would need £500 and even if there isn't one in January it is looking likely that there will be one on the horizon and this money would be peace of mind that I can at least pay my bills and survive when the next lockdown comes along.
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
