Lochies Doggo Dream!

Donation protected

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping we can work together to raise funds for a great cause!

Meet my nephew Lochie (Lachlan). He was born with 2q23.1 microdeletion syndrome. This rare condition only affects approximately 100 children worldwide. It is caused by a tiny missing part of one of the body’s 46 chromosomes.

Steve and Elisha Wright (my sister and brother in law) are raising Lochie, along with his three older brothers in Rockingham, Western Australia.

Lochies condition encompasses, autism, intellectual disability and  an extreme form of uncontrolled epilepsy.

This form of epilepsy has meant that Lochie has had to be rushed to hospital on many occasions with prolonged seizures lasting up to 5 hours. Lochie also suffers from frequent daily absence seizures, delayed speech and language issues, behavioural, intellectual and developmental delays, movement and balance issues, growth and nutrition issues, and sleep disturbances (he has no circadian rhythms).

To try to combat his seizures Lochie has been prescribed a range of medications.  Unfortunately these further impact Lochies sleep patterns, language, and motor skills.

Lochie and the family are constantly worried about his seizures and what could happen if a family member is not nearby. A few minutes could mean everything in these situations, but there is a solution!  A trained seizure alert dog.

There are providers who will train a dog specifically for the family and Lochies condition. Some dogs have been trained to bark, or otherwise alert families when a child has a seizure while playing outside or in another room. Some dogs  have been trained to lie next to someone having a seizure to prevent injury. Others are able to activate alarm systems!

Lochie has a real connection with animals and would love a new buddy, while the family would appreciate relief from the emotional toll the threat of a serious seizure places on the household.

So what do you think? Can you help to make Lochies doggo dream come true?

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Sincerely

Brett Dunsire
