The purpose of this campaign is to build a community for creatives in the Virgin Islands specifically in the media field.
One of the things I've noticed in the Virgin Islands is that while there are many photographers in the territory there aren't many services dedicated towards us. Most scholarships for arts in the territory are not available for photographers and videographers, and on the equipment side there aren't stores that cater to a photographer's needs. In this territory we are indeed a "lost art."
I have many goals with this fundraising campaign.
1) For starters, I myself am in need of new equipment, both my camera (Nikon D650), my lens (70-300mm) and my lap (an Hp) have essentially hit their lifespan. My lens has officially died as did my laptop which I had for almost 10 years now. It was a long run but I had to say goodbye.
2)Creating a studio for creators involved in media and arts (I've already found a space. Been keeping an eye on it for a minute. It's just the funding). We have very limited studio space and I want to create a safe space for all--models, photographers, videographers etc.
3) I'd also like to have the space open for mentoring so that children interested in photography also have a space to learn. I started mentoring last year and found that it is a rewarding experience.
4) Why “the Capture Crew?” Because I'd also like to have a series with different content creators that would be shot in the studio just to talk about their experience in the field and answer questions/give tips to the viewing audience.
5) I'd also like to start a scholarship for students interested in photography in the Virgin Islands.
I want to be able to give back to those who help with the campaign and so I’ve decided to add incentives.
$5-10|| A shoutout during the grand opening of the studio
$20-40|| A signed canvas from one of my photos taken to use as home decor
$50-100 || half off a studio session when we officially open
$200 || Your first studio session is free + all the previous awards.
$500+ || All of the rewards below at a time of your choosing.
If you’re following my patreon account—patreon.com/mlscotland—you can see sneak peaks of the progress from buying equipment to securing the space and the set up.
It seems simple, but it's been a lot and I'm hoping to kickstart this as soon as possible.
An early thank you to everyone who takes part in this! I greatly appreciate it!
