Local rescue needs your help

Hi Everyone, my colleague and I are lucky to work in a great organisation who are offering a matching bonus for all donations received until Sunday 17 October 2021. What that means is, whatever funds we can raise, our employer will match 1:1 and add a bonus $5,000 to the amount raised. The 1:1 matching is capped at $50,000 and as lofty as that seems, we thought we'd start small and aim for $5,000. We would be thrilled if we passed that amount, but baby steps first.

We're a little late to the party but we love a challenge, so we're asking your help to donate and spread the world to help us reach our goal for raising as much as we can until this Sunday 17 October.

All donations are going directly to Best Friends Felines who are a Brisbane based animal rescue that help the community in Brisbane, coastal areas and in some instances, some townships in regional Queensland.

In addition to this GoFundMe, we'll be doing a Craft-A-Thon this Sunday to create face masks, fabric chew toys and pet carrier bed inserts.

So who are Best Friends Felines?

> They are 100% volunteer based and a registered charity

> The rescue help rehome and rehabilitate mainly cats and kittens from surrenders, pounds or colonies

> In 2020, the rescue helped rehome over 700 animals and this year have rehomed 446 to date

> The rescue's community work extends beyond taking care of animals and they work closely with other charity organisations to help donate food to those in need and most recently, assisting with temporary pet accommodation for families relocating from domestic violence

The funds we are seeking to raise will go towards reducing the rescue's vet bills which range from anywhere between $15,000 - $25,000 per month (depending on the low and peak periods). Those costs include vetwork to desex or spay, vaccination shots, vet work for more challenging cases that may include emergency vet visits, surgeries like amputation, antiobitics and bloodwork to help narrow down the cause for illness. All other costs like food, deworming and flea treatments are absorbed by our wonderful volunteers at their own expense.
