A very good friend faces having to sell her home next year as she was mis sold an interest only mortgage many years ago, whilst exiting a horrendous marriage. She doesn't earn much money, and lives a very simple life in her home local to me. This mortgage is due for paying up early 2021.
She is a key worker all through Covid 19 Lockdowns and also selflessly helps the elderly and ill.
Whilst she does have more equity than debt because she is very near retirement age, she cannot get near enough on equity release or lifetime mortgage schemes, and if she sells up she will not get enough to even purchase a plot of land to put a caravan on. The shortfall is just around £100000 despite her paying every extra penny she earns off her mortgage for the last few years to try and reduce the debt.
I wish I was back in my earlier years when I would have had that sort of money, but I don't, otherwise I would give it to her. This is the only practical thing I can do to try and raise this amount of help within the mere months left.
I have tried to help out by giving her parts and labour free and so keeping her old car on the road so she can get to work but due to the impact that Covid has had on my business, I cannot help her to get the sort of funds she needs to keep her home safe.
I have never tried this, but a local friend thought it would be a good idea as he knows the situation, I am just hoping it works.
If this should raise any more than the target I will arrange with Go Fund Me that it gets paid to a charity that helps the homeless.
I will be eternally grateful for any help I can get to sort this problem for her. She has personally helped me through difficult times with elderly relatives who had dementia.
The full amount will be needed before April 2021, so within 8 months.
I will be personally contributing £50 immediately, to help her get this balance paid off, but amounts are not important, if everyone shares and everyone who sees this contributes just £1.00 together we would likely raise enough to help others who face losing their home.
