Local journalists in need

Donation protected
The Victoria Advocate is a locally- and family-owned newspaper.  Our journalists reported on Hurricane Harvey before, during and after the storm. This fund is mainly designed for the journalism community that has asked about how to help. We urge others to give to the rest of our community's residents, who have suffered far greater losses. Our losses are modest by comparison.  Some of our losses: A photojournalist's car was declared a total loss because of flooding, She also sustained a concussion reporting on the aftermath and will have some medical bills; workers comp has been filed. Various other staffers covering the storm had personal equipment damaged. Our city editor is looking for a new apartment after a wall in his bedroom was broken apart. Our copy desk chief cleaned out water that filled his first-floor apartment. Almost all of our staff lost the contents of their refrigerators/freezers because of the extended power outage.
Any money raised will go into our newspaper's Helping Hands fund to be distributed to our employees in the most need.
I am the editor of the newspaper. Our newsroom number is [phone redacted]. Thank you for your consideration. And, again, I can't stress enough that our journalists would most want you to give to those in greater need.
