My name is Donna Lemon, I am a local Arrernte/warumungu woman. Single mum of two teenage boys who were also born and raised in Alice Springs.
Since I could talk, I have actively taken it upon myself to be a spokesperson on behalf of young people and the community that I grew up in, more so since becoming a mum.
I would like to run for a seat on our local Council, to be a positive Law maker that is inclusive and creates Unity in our Community at the upcoming election however the criteria stipulates that I would not be considered because of rate arrears of $3,399 so I am hoping that the community of Alice Springs will get behind me and help me settle this so I can nominate to be your Councillor.
For the past 8 years, I have been encouraged to nominate in the local Council elections but never felt ready as I believed I could do more being a voice withouth the title of 'Councillor' but as time has gone on and in our current climate, I realise that we need local positive Law makers who have positive influence and can work collaboratively with others to make a difference.
I will be the type of Councillor that is impartial, transparent, take on board your concerns and above all remain honest in my dealings with everyone I am aiming to engage!!
I have been advised that my nomination will be accepted providing $3,399 is paid in full by 4.21pm on Friday 28th July 2017. Should we raise more than needed to cover my rates, the remainder will be used to help with my campaign to become your Councillor!!
