Lobo Mejia's Recovery

What Happened

On Monday, November 25th, 2019, my dear Lobo was hit by an incoming car. That morning at around 8:00 AM (PST), my father had gone outside to walk Lobo. Lobo was coming from a different state, and therefore was not familiar with the new and loud environment of Los Angeles, California. He ended up getting frightened by the cars and dogs nearby, thus running from my father. My father, although he had a tight grip on Lobo's neck leash, Lobo ended up escaping from it and ran onto the oncoming traffic. A female driver ended up hitting Lobo, causing multiple injuries to him. The major injury was his rear right leg, which sustained a deep gash along side of it, exposing his white bone underneath. The bone from his rear right leg had also been scrapped off a small bit since he was thrown onto the pavement from the impact. He has a bit of trouble breathing as well, since the car's fender hit him along his chest area. There also may be complications with his hip in the future, as he gets older, but the doctors have said it is not definite.

Recommended Treatment

The doctors have told us that for him to recuperate and retrieve some of his leg movement back, he would most likely need ligament surgery to regain his stability. He would also of course, need some type of physical therapy, which would help assist him in getting back his leg movement. If we choose to not opt for the surgery and to just stitch up the wound, he would no longer have usage of that leg. It would simply be a dangling leg with no mobility whatsoever. They've recommended for us to also use a splint on him as of right now, so he could heal better.

Urgency of Funds

As of right now, we are tight on money. So far we have been billed around $2,000 for just a emergency consultation, medication, and to bandage the wound. The hospital we went to only did those things, they didn't thoroughly clean the wound, and did not even stitch up the wound. As of right now, the wound is still open with the flab of skin swaying. The ligament surgery and bone filler that they will put IF we choose to have surgery will be around $5,000. This is our family dog, who we care deeply for. Since we cannot find the adequate funds to help get him the treatment he needs, we are coming to the  people who view this page with their open hearts. The funds received from this page would be needed by 2 weeks. If you view this page after 2 weeks, your offerings are still welcomed. Whatever funds are not used for Lobo's medical bills, will be donated to another injured dog on this site.

How This Would Help

The funds raised from this campaign would greatly benefit all of us, not just me. My family has honestly been a bit traumatized from this event, some more than others like my father who saw the whole accident occur. Obviously, Lobo himself has been mentally traumatized after the incident. It would help us in knowing that our youngest family member, who just turned 1 year old this month, is healthy and on his way to recovery for the new year.

I just want to say I deeply appreciate the people, who see this page and are understanding of our current situation. It is unfortunate that such events happen before thanksgiving, but we have come to understand something greater. We are thankful that Lobo is still alive with us, for the incident could have been way worse than what it currently is. No matter the amount you donate, the Mejia Family considerably values every penny coming our way. Please make sure to also share our campaign and page link on all social media platforms. Thank you.
