Service Dog for Veteran

Service Dog for Anxiety and other medical issues.

I have suffered from severe depression, anxiety and diagnosed with an asocial personality amongst other medical issues for the last couple years with things seeming to get progressively worse each and every year. I have stopped going out unless my daughter is with me. Having grandchildren, I am painfully aware as well that I have created some what of a negative impact on their young lives and the memories we should be making by not being able to partake in their everyday lives.

With my daughter leaving the nest within the next few months and upon recommendation from my doctor, I have decided to get a service dog. My doctor encouraged me to write a letter of support to send out to my friends and family since money is a barrier in my desire to find a medical dog. None of friends had been aware of my issues, I have worked so hard for so many years to hide my fears and anxiety by creating excuses to avoid social situations and many other activities.

I have pretty much become a recluse. This may come as a surprise to many as I have always been a leader in my previous occupations and always thought of as a A type personality. I am a proud US Army veteran, ex law Enforcement and Paramedic, which I served so proudly and enjoyed the day to day interactions.

By having a service animal by my side, I truly believe this can only help me to feel as if I'm not alone in my anxieties and most of all she could provide a calming presence and distraction while out in the public. I have forgotten what this type of freedom can feel like and I would be most grateful to have at least part my life back.

I unfortunately can not get the help I need from the VA, as my disabilities are not service related but yet the VA agrees that I am disabled and other groups have more important Veterans who are returning home with PTSD and other urgent medical issues than mine.Their needs come way before mine in my eyes. Service animal groups have a very long waiting list, sometimes up to 2 years, so this is my only chance at getting the help I so desperately need.

I appreciate any and all help and Thank you for taking the time to read my plea for help. God Bless.
