Linda's fight against Multi Cancers

Donation protected
This is for my Mother who is just 60 years young. She is fighting Small Cell Lung Cancer and Laryngeal Cancer.

My mother has always tried her hardest at being the best that she can be. Always helping others and never asking for anything in return. Linda is a loving daughter, sister, and mother to me, Zaneta ( her only child ). Through an up and down relationship with my mom, my mother's last dying wish is to build a better relationship with me. I have since moved back to Minnesota after being away for twenty three years.

After not communicating with my mother in several years, I made a call to her back in February, 2014. Little did I know that her life was turning upside down. She told me that she was having problems with Thrush and through several rounds of antibiotics there was no improvement. She was at wits end. She wasn't able to eat and drink without being in severe pain. She had already lost over 20 lbs. Then in the spring of 2014 she went to the dentist and they noticed something disheartening. They gave her a referral to the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor ( ENT ). At her appointment with the ENT, she was then diagnosed with Thrush again. She just couldn't understand why they weren't doing further testing. After about 2 weeks I told her to go back, with hesitation she did go back. I’m glad she listened to me. At this appointment they discovered she had a enlarged voicebox. The ENT then referred her to a speech therapist, and set her up with an appointment for a PET scan. Well, finally we are making some forward progress. Test results are in and are not good. My mom was diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer and they also discovered lesions on her lungs. At this point, they could not determine the actual source of the Laryngeal cancer. Did it start in her throat or did it actually start in her lungs. My mom has had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and because of this they did not want to take biopsies of the Lung lesions due to the risk factors of her lungs collapsing. They moved forward with Radiation therapy on her throat and would reassess her lungs at the end of this treatment. Eight weeks of treatment had passed and she had a chest x-ray and another PET scan. The lesions grew in size enough that a biopsy was no longer an option. And now we start with chemotherapy. After the first treatment, they decided to start a second round. During the first and second rounds she spent 2 long visits in the hospital because of low hemoglobin, white and red cell blood counts, and multiple visits for transfusions and to add fluids.

Mom finished and they did another PET scan and she has made it remission on the lung cancer and the Laryngeal cancer is unknown at this point because her throat is too red and inflamed to assess it any further. Now because of the aggressive nature of the lung cancer and the possibility that it might metastasize to the brain. She has just started a round of radiation on her brain, and is still having difficulty eating and drinking. On February 25th, she is going in for throat surgery( they believe the throat cancer is still there ) and through all of will still be treated with the brain radiation. When the surgery is finished she might not be able to speak again normally.

My mom lives off of $1200 a month for social security disability and receives $15 in food assistance.
Linda takes care of my grandmother Alvina who is in the nursing home. She has some financial responsibility for the fees for her. My mom is falling short on her rent and utilities and thank goodness for cold weather laws here in Minnesota, she is protected with this until spring at which time she will have to move. She does get some assistance with medical, but it isn’t much on her skyrocketing medical bills which are adding up daily.

I cannot thank everyone enough for following us and supporting us through this difficult time.  Your thoughts and prayers are comforting! I am keeping the faith and staying strong for my mom and hopefully she will continue to stay strong and make it through this as well. I will keep everyone updated!

Thank You
