Dallas Just Wants to Be Able Play

Recently... well not so recent, at the end of December 2014, Eric and I noticed Dallas had a swollen left eye and was unable to open his mouth wider than about 2 inches. We rushed him to the emergency vet who diagnosed him with a retrobulbar abscess and proscribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. We were told we should see improvement in 3-5 days. Unfortunately the medicine was no help.
5 vet visits later (specialists included), lots of anibiotic prescriptions, and a new swollen lymphnode in his neck, we still didn't have a solution.
I called the Specialist explaining he has been sick now for over a month and she set up an appointment the next day. This time with a surgical specialist who would be able to x-ray, do an ultrasound if the x-ray provided nothing and operate all in the same day.
That brings us to today...
Unfortunately they sedated Dallas, intubated him, attempted an oral exam (his mouth wouldn't open wide enough), took x-rays which found nothing and did an ultrasound which also showed no definitive foreign body that is causing the pain and preventing him from opening his mouth. We were told we will now need to either go to Richmond for a CT scan or to Raleigh for an MRI. Either one of these procedures will definitively show whatever is causing the abscess and allow the surgeon to be able to pinpoint where to go in to remove it.
It's great news to hear that this could be the end of his pain, but it's also a lot of money. We've had 6 vet visits in the past month and now we are faced with the mounting cost of a CT or MRI PLUS the actual surgery. Eric and I are not the type of people that like to ask for help, but our dog baby needs it. We would appreciate any kind of help you can offer his sweet loving face.
