Update--Breast o Brain

Donation protected
Hi. Never thought I would find myself in this position....asking for help from friends and people I may or may not know! The following is a short version of this new venture I will be attempting, and I have to admit I can't do it alone this time.

CANCER HISTORY: Have been fighting the cancer battle since 1998, consisting of breast, head and neck..ultimately metastatic breast that attacked my lung (partially removed now) and rib. Was dealing with that and continuing normal activities while receiving chemo infusions since just before Christmas. Then BAM!!!!! literally...down I went.

Had an incredibly SCARY seizure and was rushed to the hospital last week. After scans, tests, etc. it was determined I have a brain tumor (metastatic breast) and it's coming out. OK.

SURGERY: That was Friday...one week ago. Came "home" on Saturday. Like a friend said, "a woman wants her bed, clean sheets and pretty pj's!!! Medicine is amazing...have learned a lot about it on a personal level!!

DILEMA: Bills don't change!!! Just going to and from for radiation will

be a challenge!! As most of you know, through my last treatments, I took care of that by myself. Unfortunately, after a seizure...they don't like for a person to drive! Imagine!!!

MY FAMILY: They are awesome.... We are like so many others... Paycheck to paycheck. I have worked since I was fourteen years old..diligently! My medical issues have made things difficult... Speech isn't the best since throat cancer....but doesn't keep me quiet...have to laugh at myself sometimes! What do they say? Don't take yourself so seriously!!! The breast cancer has given me an opportunity to be available for other women who have questions....! The throat has also enabled me to develop some pretty nice friendships with others who have undergone a very painful treatment!!

CANCER ASSISTANCE: The many cancer societies don't help financially....maybe a place to stay during hospitalizations or treatments. For any other assistance, I would have to be being evicted, no heat or electric, etc. I think then they might help for a week!

HOME: My home (we rent a home in Georgetown and the landlord loves the cats....how lucky can a person be) means the entire world to me!!!!! Home is where a person is safe...feels secure. It is where my family comes, where we create traditions, where the cats curl up on my lap, where I am always happy to return to! Yes..it's modest...but all the memories and sentiment are priceless!! The security of having a roof over your head is also priceless... Especially if you have ever lost that security!!

TREATMENT: Will begin radiation sometime next month. Having experienced this twice in the past, I know what to expect...somewhat.... The fatigue may be a little tougher than breast.. Hopefully, not as painful as throat! The brain will surely be something to share.

GOAL: My personal health-related goal would be to be healthy and back to 'normal' in short order. What I have learned throughout the last 17+ plus years via special friends and mentors is...There is a God and I'm NOT it!!! Without faith...I have no clue where I would be....probably not enjoying my way of life today!! Again, One Day at a Time is the way through this journey too!!!

My practical goal would be to complete treatment at Markey Cancer Center in Lexington. Hopefully, I can return to my "old self"....but just might try to back off the need to be super-woman!!! Lol!

FINANCIAL GOAL: You have to put an amount in that blank spot. The only thing that really makes sense to me is whatever might help.....is gratefully appreciated.

MY PROMISE: Too keep you posted...not whiney stuff. Can't imagine..... But possible my shares will help someone down the road in a similar situation.

SO....if anyone can find it in their heart to help, or know of someone who can, it will be greatly appreciated. Promise to 'pay it forward' somehow-someway down the road......need to hang in here for awhile longer!!!! Have wedding to attend, grand baby coming home from Florida I want to spend time and play with and a little girl in Louisville that likes to play ball with her grandma.

My sincere thanks,

Ellen
