Beagle attacked by Coyote

This female lemon beagle faces a long road ahead of her to recover from some rather severe injuries. Just to recap, Lemon came in to Animal Control around the first of the year after having been attacked and badly injured by a coyote. As a result of her injuries, her skin became necrotic from trauma which left her with large areas of skin missing both on her shoulder and her leg.

She is being treated at California Veterinary Specialists in Carlsbad, CA. We have photos of her injuries shown below and warn you they are quite graphic. The estimate for the cost of her medical treatment is significant and includes both the pre-operative care to get her well enough for surgery, along with the surgery itself to close those wounds. We’re hoping we will see improvement on those wounds in three days, to be followed within another three days with skin grafts if all goes well.

 We would also like to thank Dr. Sarit Dhupa of California Veterinary Specialists for giving us a substantial rescue discount on the cost of her medical bills. We would be thankful for as much financial support as we can get to save this sweet girl. 

Lemon is a sweet, lovely dog, approximately 5 years old, who has already been through a lot in her life, but still has a difficult journey ahead of her. She knows how to sit, likes to sleep in bed with her foster mom, and gets along beautifully with other dogs. She’s done really well so far at the vet, and the staff just loves her… More updates to come as we receive them.
