Paige's Fight for the Options

Donation protected
Paige is an amazing, strong, sweet, and caring 22 year old young lady. When she was 16 she was diagnosed with a level 4 Astrocytoma Brain Tumor. She underwent surgery and 6 Weeks of radiation and chemotherapy in Spokane Washington. She continued chemo for an additional year after the initial run of treatment. At that time, even given the treatment she was given; we were told she had 6 months of life left. They were wrong. She went into remission for almost 4 years. A year and a half after we relocated to Minnesota and the day after her 20th birthday, we were told her cancer had returned. Her doctor informed her that 3 surgeons had turned down her case and there was nothing they could do. Again she was given a "time" 3 months.. They were wrong. I demanded a referral to Mayo in Rochester and we were there in 2 days. She received her second tumor extraction 4 days after that appointment and underwent 2 more years of combinations of chemotherapy. This diagnoses was a Glioblastoma Multiforme level 4 stage 4. Her cancer is no longer responding to the chemo and so once again.."There is nothing we can do for you" and another timeline of life. Less than a year. They will be wrong...
They say "The 3rd times a charm." But this kind of a 3rd time is different.
Let me pause for a moment and introduce myself and give you some background. My name is Lori. Paige came from Iowa to live with myself, my husband Rick and our daughter in Washington State when she was 15 years old. Paige, prior to the cancer had some challenging and hard times. The hardest was the loss of her mother at age 11. It would be easy to say the hand this girl has been dealt is nothing less than unfair and cruel, but we refuse to give in to hard times. Instead we encourage to learn and build off them, and that is exactly her attitude. She has been nothing short of amazing, brave and strong. Never once bitter or regretful. She carries a smile and loves life like a champ. Always carefree, loving and high spirited. In these times she keeps us strong with her powerful attitude and ever glowing smile on her face.
Paige has been accepted for treatment at the Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute in Milwaukee WI. This team of Dr.'s are wonderful and forward thinking. Tomorrow she will undergo surgery to install a port into the brain and a tissue sample for mapping her cancer. Then after released from the hospital we will return home for 10 day and then return for 6 weeks of 5 days a week of radiation and chemotherapy.
We are asking for help with these cost. We have housing, travel, gas, food and household needs that are in need of financial assistance with. I have contacted several organizations but unfortunately, Paige falls in that "in between" category. She is either too old due to no longer being a adolescent, not old enough, not a parent, or her cancer does not qualify for the program.
I told her, while she was fighting the second time.. We will fight for the options and pray for a cure.. She now has a necklace with those words on it.
Thank you for taking the time to read Paige's story and thank you for any and all prayers, assistance and help given.
