Jared Barton is 38 years young, a loving husband, and a father of 5 young and spirited children, a great man, and a fine neighbor and friend.  In 2013, he was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor which required multiple surgeries and procedures which included a shunt in his skull and an arduous extended stay in the hospital.  Five days ago while on a business trip to San Francisco he was found unresponsive in his hotel room.  It has been determined that he contracted a staph infection which not only made him deathly ill, but also contaminated his shunt.

He must now have surgery to remove the shunt to remove the staph infection which treatment will run a minimum of 21 days in the San Francisco hospital, if all goes perfectly. If it doesn’t go well it could easily take another 30, 60, or 90 days for treatment.  The hospital in San Francisco is not familiar with this type of case and has recommended that he return to San Antonio where they have experience with this treatment.  Not only will this allow him to be cared for by his doctors, but his wife will be able to care for him and the kids. 

    The hospital will not release him to fly home commercial because he could have a critical seizure with the altitude that a commercial plane climbs to.   Driving is not an option because of the length of time and the fact that he must be on IV medication to fight the staph infection (believe me I wanted to drive to California, get them, and bring Jared and Mandy home).   To get him home, he must come via MedicFlight, but the insurance won't cover the cost and will require $21,000.00 full payment.
