Liz's skin removal surgery

Donation protected

My whole life I have struggled with my weight. The older I got, the more I'd gain and when I finally moved out on my own my comfort eating turned into a full blown food addiction that was literally killing me and ruining my life. Somehow I ended up weighing 335lbs. I had horrible sleep apnea and needed to sleep with a CPAP. Every day and every night was miserable and I completely isolated myself and never left the couch unless I was getting more food or had to go to work. Finally, one day I decided I had had enough, I was wasting my life and I was tired of being miserable. I battled for four and a half long years. Last summer I had another sleep study done and found I no longer had sleep apnea, the first huge milestone. I have continued to work hard and continue to lose and am now at 124lbs of weight lost. With a huge amount of weight loss comes a huge amount of loose, excess skin. It gets in the way, it can cause infections and wounds, and maybe worst of all it is a constant reminder of the worst time in my life. Being so close to my goal I decided to start researching skin removal surgery and was surprised, excited and proud to learn I am now a candidate and could safely undergo the procedure at the weight I am at. However, that happiness was short lived as I was hit with the devastating blow that the entire cost of the surgery needs to be paid 2 weeks in advance of the procedure. Insurance will cover nothing as this is considered "cosmetic " and I did not undergo gastric bypass. Never did I think I'd be punished for not taking the easy way out. The estimate for the procedure I need is between $20,000-$30,000. Out of pocket. All at once. This would take an extremely long time for me to save on my own. I hate asking for help as this is no one's fault but my own. But I fought so hard to get here and don't want to have gotten this far just to be stuck where am I. If you're reading this, I can't thank you enough for even doing that. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey and believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself.
