My wife’s name is Liz. She was a runner. She wasn’t a professional or a competitor. She just liked to run. Now, all she wants to do is be able to run again.
In her professional life, Liz has been a math teacher for thirteen years, beginning with 8th graders and eventually moving on to high school students. She prides herself on lifting up less fortunate students by showing them what they can achieve, and by organizing donation drives to collect the basic essentials they may not get at home.
At home, she is a loving wife and mother of four fur babies of the feline variety. She makes sure we are all well fed, clean, and have a warm place to sleep. Our lives are better because she is in them.
The pain in her leg can range anywhere from bothersome to debilitating, and can radiate anywhere along the sciatic nerve near hip all the way to her foot. On her best days, we can go for a short walk in the neighborhood. On her worst, she needs pressure or massage just to keep the tears back.
Since her pain first started, she has struggled with her anger at not being able to enjoy the activities she used to, depression, and her weight.
After three years of failed diagnoses, multiple painful injections, an unnecessary knee surgery, and thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses, she has finally been correctly diagnosed with Sacroiliac Joint Inflammation and needs a fusion surgery.
Our insurance plan has denied the service, and an appeal has not helped.
The surgery she needs is called iFuse and involves inserting 3 implants in to the joint laparoscopically, stabilizing the joint and relieving the pain caused by its pressure on the sciatic nerve. This surgery will work! She will be able to do all the things she loves again, and she will have her life back! We have exhausted all means of taking care of it ourselves, but this cost is insurmountable. I’m not usually one to ask for help, but for my wife’s happiness, there is nothing I wouldn’t do!
