Living and Medical Expenses for Dad

Donation protected

On April 3rd, 2017 our family was hit - HARD. What started with an urgent care visit for tooth pain, ended in a cancer diagnosis 48 hours later. My dad, Dave, was diagnosed with aggressive AML Leukemia with myelodysplastic characteristics. Basically pre-cancer on top of cancer. He immediately started an agressive process of inpatient treatment. For about 6 weeks he was in the hospital for the first attempt to kick cancer's ass. He POWERED through (2) week long infusions of chemotherapy - round the clock, 2 different chemotherapy drugs, one injected and the other on a constant drip into his IV. Each infusion was a 2+ week long process - one week of chemo, one waiting week followed by a bone marrow biopsy and waiting for results. He received blood products almost daily.  We had some bumps in the road including some time in ICU which was the result of infections. Infections that his body couldn't fight because the chemotherapy had destroyed his white blood cells and antibiotics weren't enough. Unfortunately, the second round of chemo didn't touch the cancer. The decision was made to send him home to regain his strength in preparation for round 2 - an NK Cell clinical trial and bone marrow transplant at the U of M. He will be heading to the U of M shortly to start this trial and will remain there for approximately 70 days, and after that his doctors are telling him he will require round the clock care at home for about another 3-4 months. We have applied for and used any grants that we've found, however since he is unable to work, bills are mounting and basic living expenses are beginning to be a concern. He has the same living expenses you and I have - rent, electric, gas, phone, vehicle and insurance, groceries - and he needs help with these things. He deserves to come out of this with life as he's known it - intact. If you know my dad, you know how strong and spiritual he is. You know how much love he has for life, for his grandson's, family and friends. He wants to beat this - and keeping a positive mental outlook is so crucial to him beating this. Keeping that fight alive should be the only thing that he should have to worry about. I want to thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers and any donation you are able to help with.
