We are disabled and have provided the appropriate documentation, but we are not in an ADA-accessible unit or treated with any respect or acknowledgment of our disabilities. We have been subjected to threats and dismissal by employees of Property ownership, even their lawyers. Many items do not work - like our one window or the heating system - and their failure to repair has cost us $400 for Oct-March beyond our $30 per month. We have paid our rent, but I am on SSI and we can't pay our expenses for the items we have to pay every month that are fixed costs and don't balloon due to other's negligence. Overly sensitive smoke alarms that go off - all 3 within 10' - every time the oven is turned on and emits heat. Any time we risk our lives to take a shower with no rails in a child-size shallow slippery tub. Or wetting down stairwells with a paltry hose and a bucket of full-strength bleach with no airflow for the disabled, elderly, children, and dogs to traverse while exiting or entering the building.
Minor complaints? Anyone who pays taxes pays for this mismanagement. We are in Section 8 housing, elderly and disabled. We don't have family or a fat bank account. We could be your mother or father, aunt or uncle. We are American citizens and we paid our boatload of taxes. We could be YOU in the future if something unplanned or devastating were to happen.
They don't care beyond prompt rent payments. We are just money to them and should be silent. They will get to it - eventually. After someone has moved out, I think. It was the previous tenant who ruined the secondary heating unit for the bedrooms.
If we speak up for ourselves, we are breaking "house rules" and they sic their attorney's on us. Or end a Zoom meeting call because we asked a question, or being rude in their opinion. The question was why can't we have notices emailed during COVID, not taped to our doors or jammed into the door jambs. Or receive multiple notices as previous ones had incorrect times or dates and had to be corrected.
We need to move to a non-urban place, without multi-family units (senior living?), with 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms, still close enough to health care services since Will needs surgery for his back and I need specialists for my eyes and ongoing therapies associated with my stroke and traumatic brain injury and general ongoing care. We currently have Section 8 housing and are paying less than $600 a month on one Social Security income. Will is awaiting his award and will be able to afford more at that point. Living in a place with more windows and light would be so healthy and joyous! We are in a dark/blinding place that is like a cave/bunker depending on time of night/day. With working windows and doors and heat/air. And a working walk-in shower with ADA rails!
We want to live and thrive - not wait to die quickly. We cannot live here anymore without a detrimental impact to our health and well-being, or so consumed by depression and popping prescribed happy pills that insure weight gain. Please see my link below to my blog for full details or to know we are real. Thank you for your consideration or contribution. Bless you and may you and your family be well during these wretched times.
