Presencia: Little Ones at the Table

Donation protected
As "Back to School" ads, to-do lists, pressures and stresses flood your mind in the coming days, I'd like to invite you into a larger story.

The kids in our program are bright. They are bursting with potential. Their smiles are genuine. But they lack the kind of support I had growing up.

Many come home from overcrowded schools to empty pantries. They feel lost, left behind, and in treacherous waters without a life raft in sight.

Our heart at Presencia is for the children of immigrants.

We have come to learn the immigrant story. We know moms who have walked for days through deserts, losing all their toe nails for the sake of their kids. But language barriers prevent them from helping their little ones with their homework. We know dads who work all day long, seven days a week, doing the hardest work, and it still isn't enough to put food on the table.

We believe God is calling us to welcome the immigrant, to share what God has given us, and to love, not just in word but in deed.

This year would you expand your table to include the kids in our neighborhood? Could you help us place a hand of encouragement on a little guy struggling to spell his English words?

We have two amazing neighborhood leaders serving as Tutoring Directors this year. One came to our program as a 13 year old, knowing very little English. He is now at Oglethorpe University on a private scholarship, living at home, supporting his family, and working his way through college!

The second will be a senior in high school and has already earned a scholarship to the college of her choosing when she graduates. She started in our program as a little elementary schooler, become a leader in middle school, and now is on staff with Presencia.

Their example to the kids in our community is invaluable. They give our kids hope.

We have our staff, our volunteers and our hearts ready to welcome the kids home from school this year with the supplies they need, a yummy snack and a nutritious meal. But we need your help in covering the cost of all that.

We plan to begin our tutoring program on September 12th.

We need to raise $20,000 to cover this semesters expenses. I know that might sound like an impossible number to raise in a month and a half, but when I do the math, I know it would only take 100 people giving $200 to make it happen.

Time Magazine published an article recently stating that American families with school aged kids expect they will spend $630.36 this year on back to school items.

Would you consider expanding your budget to include the children of Presencia? It could make all the difference in a child's life. They may even grow up to share what they have received with the next generation, like our Tutoring Directors, Karina and Gerardo!

You can pray with us, share this with your friends, and give a "back to school" financial gift by making a donation below.

Thanks for thinking of us!

Much Love,
Ruthie
